Weight Management Program in San Antonio, TX

A Different Kind of Weight Management Program

Bariatric Counseling Center in San Antonio offers an integrated approach to weight management that combines nutrition counseling, behavioral health therapy, cooking education, and movement — all under one roof. No fad diets. No shame. Just lasting behavioral change.

Why Most Weight Management Programs Fall Short

Most weight management programs in San Antonio focus on one thing — what you eat. They hand you a meal plan, count your calories, and measure success by the number on the scale. When the program ends, old patterns return.

At Bariatric Counseling Center, we understand that sustainable weight management requires addressing the whole person — not just the plate. Eating behaviors are driven by emotions, habits, trauma, relationships, and environment. Our program addresses all of these factors simultaneously.

Our Integrated Approach

BCC’s weight management program combines four core disciplines into a single, coordinated experience. Each component reinforces the others, creating momentum that lasts well beyond the program itself.

Behavioral Health Therapy

Our licensed therapists help you understand the emotional and psychological patterns behind your eating behaviors. Through evidence-based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, you develop new coping skills and break cycles of emotional eating, self-sabotage, and shame. Many of the individuals in our weight management program identify as emotional or compulsive overeaters — people who have tried diets and willpower but need support addressing the behavioral patterns underneath.

Nutrition Counseling

Our registered dietitians take a non-diet approach to nutrition. Instead of rigid meal plans, they help you build flexible, sustainable eating habits based on your body’s needs, your preferences, and your real life. The focus is on nourishment and behavioral change — not restriction.

Cooking Education

In our hands-on cooking classes, you practice preparing meals that are both satisfying and health-supporting. This is not about learning “diet recipes” — it is about building confidence and practical skills in the kitchen that carry over into your daily life.

Movement Programming

Our movement sessions focus on finding physical activities you enjoy — not punishing workouts. We help you build a sustainable movement practice that fits your body, your abilities, and your life.

What a Typical Week Looks Like

Most clients attend 2-3 sessions per week, with approximately 30 sessions recommended for long-term success. Each session integrates multiple components — you might have group therapy followed by a cooking class, or a nutrition counseling session paired with movement.

Sessions are available in-person at our San Antonio location and virtually throughout Texas. We offer morning and evening scheduling to accommodate work and family responsibilities.

Who Is This Program For?

Our weight management program in San Antonio is designed for people who have tried traditional diet programs without lasting results — and who are ready for a different approach. You may benefit from our program if you have a history of yo-yo dieting or weight cycling, if you struggle with emotional eating or binge eating, if you are preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, if you want to build a healthier relationship with food and your body, or if you are looking for professional support that goes beyond a meal plan.

How We Measure Success

At BCC, we do not define success by the number on a scale. We measure progress through sustainable behavioral changes, improved relationship with food, better emotional regulation, increased confidence in the kitchen, more consistent movement habits, and overall improvements in well-being and quality of life. Our goal is to help you build habits and skills that last a lifetime — not just through a program cycle.

Learn more about our program

How is your weight management program different from a diet program?

Our program focuses on long-term behavioral change rather than short-term dieting. We address the psychological, emotional, and behavioral factors that influence weight, combining evidence-based counseling with nutritional guidance to create sustainable lifestyle changes.

How long does the weight management program last?

Program length varies based on individual needs and goals. Most clients participate for 3-6 months, though some continue longer for ongoing support. We create a personalized timeline during your initial assessment and adjust as needed throughout your journey.

Do I need a referral to join the weight management program?

No referral is needed to start our program. You can contact us directly to schedule an initial consultation. However, if you have insurance, checking with your provider about coverage requirements is recommended, as some plans may require a referral for reimbursement.

Can I participate in the program virtually?

Yes, we offer both in-person and virtual sessions to accommodate your schedule and preferences. Our telehealth options allow you to participate fully in the program from anywhere in Texas, with the same quality of care and support as in-person visits.

“We Never Talked About Weight”

Jessica expected weigh-ins and meal plans. What she found at BCC was a program about feelings, patterns, and the reasons we eat.
