Nutritional Counseling in San Antonio, TX

Nutrition Counseling That Does Not Start With a Meal Plan

Most people arrive at nutritional counseling having tried more diets than they can count. They know the rules. They know what foods are praised and which are blamed. What they have not had is a registered dietitian who understands that sustainable nutrition is built person by person, not from a printout.

At Bariatric Counseling Center, our registered dietitians provide one-on-one nutritional counseling for adults in San Antonio living in larger bodies, recovering from disordered eating, preparing for or following bariatric surgery, taking GLP-1 medications, or simply tired of the diet cycle. We work with the body, history, schedule, culture, and budget you actually have.

What a Session With Our Dietitians Looks Like

Your first session is a conversation. Our dietitians ask about your relationship with food, what has worked, what has not, what you eat in a typical week, and what you would like to feel different in your body. From there, we build a plan together. The plan is yours. It does not include forbidden foods, calorie targets you cannot keep, or weight goals tied to a deadline.

Sessions can include practical nutrition education, meal-pattern coaching, label-reading, grocery and dining-out strategies, support for medical conditions like gastroparesis or post-surgical absorption, and steady accountability. When useful, our dietitians coordinate directly with our licensed therapists, chef instructors, and your outside medical providers.

Conditions and Needs We Support

Our dietitians regularly work with adults navigating weight management, bariatric surgery preparation and recovery, GLP-1 medication support, binge eating, emotional eating, gastroparesis, type 2 diabetes, post-pregnancy nutrition, and recovery from years of restrictive dieting. We are anti-diet in approach: we focus on a sustainable, satisfying relationship with food, not on shrinking you into a number.

If past nutrition advice has felt shaming or impossible to live with, you will find our team different.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian?

A registered dietitian (RD) has completed an accredited degree, supervised clinical practice, and a national exam, and is licensed to provide medical nutrition therapy. The title ‘nutritionist’ is not regulated in many states, so credentials vary widely. BCC’s nutrition team is made up of registered dietitians.

Do you accept insurance for nutritional counseling?

Yes. BCC accepts insurance and most clients pay $0 out of pocket for nutritional counseling. Our team will verify your benefits before your first visit.

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

Some insurance plans require a referral and others do not. Our intake team will check this for you when verifying coverage.

Will you put me on a diet?

No. Our dietitians do not prescribe restrictive diets, meal replacements, or rigid plans. We help you build a sustainable, satisfying eating pattern that fits your body, life, and history.
