Mounjaro & Zepbound Behavioral Support in San Antonio

On Mounjaro or Zepbound? The Behavioral Side Is What Makes It Stick

Tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro and Zepbound, can dramatically reduce appetite and make weight change feel possible. What the medication cannot do on its own is change the emotional and compulsive patterns that built your relationship with food. If you are taking Mounjaro or Zepbound in San Antonio, pairing it with structured behavioral support is how you protect your progress for the long run. The Bariatric Counseling Center already supports patients across every major GLP-1 and dual-agonist medication, we hold the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval, the same standard trusted at leading hospitals, and we offer care in San Antonio and by secure telehealth across Texas.

What Mounjaro and Zepbound Are, and Why Behavior Still Matters

Mounjaro and Zepbound are both brand names for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable medication that activates both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors to reduce appetite. Mounjaro is prescribed for type 2 diabetes and Zepbound is prescribed for chronic weight management, but the underlying medication is the same. Your physician prescribes and manages it. We are not a prescriber, so your doctor is the right source for dosing and side effects.

These medications are powerful, and that is exactly why the behavioral work matters. When appetite drops, many people discover that emotional eating, compulsive overeating, and the routines they built around food do not simply disappear. They resurface in new ways. And the eating habits you want to keep, especially if you and your doctor ever reduce or stop the medication, only hold if they have been practiced and learned. Behavioral support is what turns a medication response into a durable change.

How the Bariatric Counseling Center Supports You

We provide the behavioral half of the equation through our Intensive Outpatient Program, structured outpatient care that runs alongside your medication, never instead of it. The program typically lasts about three months and roughly 30 sessions, meeting two to three times per week, with morning, evening, and Saturday options. This is outpatient care, not inpatient or residential treatment, so you keep living your life while you do the work.

Our licensed mental health professionals, including clinical psychologists and licensed professional counselors, use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and CBT for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Our registered dietitians, trained in eating disorders, guide mindful and intuitive eating, and we offer cooking classes in our teaching kitchen with a professional chef and guided grocery store tours. A registered nurse on staff coordinates with your prescribing physician so your behavioral care and your tirzepatide prescription work together. As the only program of its kind in Texas, we bring all of this under one accredited roof.
