Foundayo Behavioral Support in San Antonio

Starting Foundayo? Give the New Oral GLP-1 the Support That Makes It Last

Foundayo can quiet the constant pull toward food. What it cannot do on its own is rebuild the habits and emotional patterns that drive overeating. If you are starting Foundayo (orforglipron) in San Antonio, pairing it with structured behavioral support is how you turn the early appetite change into results you can keep. The Bariatric Counseling Center already supports patients on every major GLP-1 medication, we hold the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval, the same accreditation standard trusted at leading hospitals, and we offer this care from our Medical Center location in San Antonio and by secure telehealth across all of Texas.

What Foundayo Is, Backed by the Facts

Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, which the FDA approved on April 1, 2026 for adults with obesity, or who are overweight with a weight-related medical condition. It is a once-daily oral GLP-1 medication and the first small-molecule (non-peptide) GLP-1 pill, which is why it can be taken any time of day with no food or water restrictions, unlike the older oral GLP-1 option.

In the manufacturer’s ATTAIN-1 trial, adults on the highest dose who stayed on treatment lost an average of about 12 percent of their body weight, roughly 27 pounds, compared with about 2 pounds on placebo. That is meaningful, and it is also notably less than the more than 20 percent often seen with injectable GLP-1 medications. Foundayo is prescribed and managed by your physician. We are not a prescriber, and your doctor is the right source for dosing, side effects (most are gastrointestinal, such as nausea and constipation), and whether the medication is appropriate for you.

Here is the part the pill does not handle. A GLP-1 reduces appetite, but it does not automatically change emotional eating, compulsive overeating, or the routines that built the pattern in the first place. The lower average weight loss with an oral GLP-1 makes the behavioral side even more important, and the skills you build now are what protect your progress if you and your doctor ever taper off the medication.

How the Bariatric Counseling Center Supports You on Foundayo

We provide the behavioral half of the equation through our Intensive Outpatient Program, structured outpatient care that runs alongside your medication, never instead of it. The program typically lasts about three months and roughly 30 sessions, meeting two to three times per week, with morning, evening, and Saturday options.

Our team is built for exactly this work. Licensed mental health professionals, including clinical psychologists and licensed professional counselors, use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and CBT for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address the emotional and compulsive patterns behind eating. Our registered dietitians, trained in eating disorders, guide mindful and intuitive eating, and we offer cooking classes in our teaching kitchen with a professional chef and guided grocery store tours so you build real skills in real settings. A registered nurse on staff coordinates with your prescribing physician so your behavioral care and your Foundayo prescription work together. As the only program of its kind in Texas, we bring accredited clinical care, dietary expertise, and a behavioral approach under one roof.

What is Foundayo (orforglipron)?

Foundayo is a once-daily oral GLP-1 pill (orforglipron) that the FDA approved on April 1, 2026 for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or overweight with a related condition. It is the first small-molecule GLP-1 pill and can be taken any time of day without food or water restrictions. Your physician prescribes and manages it.

Do I still need behavioral support if I am taking an oral GLP-1?

For most people, yes — and arguably more so. Oral orforglipron produced about 12 percent average weight loss at the highest dose in trials, less than injectables, so the habit and emotional work that behavioral support provides does more of the heavy lifting for lasting results.

Does the Bariatric Counseling Center prescribe Foundayo?

No. We do not prescribe medication. We provide the accredited behavioral support that works alongside the Foundayo your physician prescribes, and our registered nurse coordinates with your prescriber.

Can I get this support by telehealth in Texas?

Yes. Our program is available in person in San Antonio and by secure telehealth across all of Texas, including Austin, Houston, Dallas, and the Rio Grande Valley.

Will my insurance cover the behavioral program?

Often, yes. We are in network with most major Texas carriers and accept CareCredit, and we file appeals at no cost if a claim is denied. Coverage for our behavioral program is separate from how your pharmacy benefit covers the Foundayo prescription itself.
