Searching for Overeaters Anonymous in San Antonio?
Overeaters Anonymous (OA) provides valuable peer support and a 12-step community for people struggling with compulsive overeating. Many people find that OA works even better when paired with professional behavioral health counseling — and others prefer clinical treatment as a standalone path.
Bariatric Counseling Center in San Antonio offers licensed clinical treatment for the same challenges OA addresses: compulsive overeating, food addiction, binge eating disorder, and the emotional patterns that drive them. We are a mental health practice, not a 12-step program — and we accept most major insurance.
Whether you currently attend OA meetings, are considering it, or are looking for a clinical alternative, BCC can help.
OA and Professional Counseling: Better Together
Overeaters Anonymous is a peer-led, community-based 12-step program — it’s free, widely available, and many people find it a powerful source of community and accountability. But OA is not clinical treatment. It does not provide psychological assessment, individual therapy, trauma processing, or evidence-based behavioral interventions.
BCC fills that clinical gap. Our licensed counselors work with clients to address the underlying psychological drivers of compulsive eating — trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation — using proven approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Many of our clients attend both OA and BCC simultaneously, finding each serves a different and complementary role.
How BCC Treats Compulsive Overeating & Food Addiction
Our multidisciplinary team addresses the full picture — psychological, behavioral, and nutritional — so you can build a lasting relationship with food.
One-on-one sessions with a licensed counselor to explore the emotional triggers, thought patterns, and life events driving compulsive eating. CBT, DBT, and ACT-based approaches.
Structured, clinician-led group sessions that complement or can substitute for OA meetings. Evidence-based and insurance-covered. A community of people facing similar challenges, guided by a licensed therapist.
Working with food addiction requires both psychological and nutritional support. Our registered dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy — without diet culture messaging — to help you rebuild a healthy, sustainable relationship with eating.
BED is the most common eating disorder in the US, and it is highly treatable with professional therapy. BCC specializes in evidence-based BED treatment, including CBT for binge eating and interpersonal therapy.
When food becomes a primary coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, loneliness, or grief, professional counseling helps you identify and practice healthier emotion regulation strategies that don’t involve food.
BCC provides telehealth behavioral health sessions for Texas residents statewide. If OA meetings near you are limited or inconvenient, virtual BCC sessions can provide consistent, flexible clinical support from your home.
Insurance-Covered Counseling for Compulsive Overeating
Unlike OA, which is free but peer-led, BCC is a licensed mental health practice — which means our services are billable through most major insurance plans. Behavioral health treatment for eating disorders and food-related issues is typically covered under your mental health benefits.
BCC is in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana, and many other major carriers. We will verify your benefits before your first appointment so there are no surprises.
